Claude-Levi Strauss

Claude Levi Strauss is a French anthropologist who has created a theory known as "binary opposites," which means that "binary oppositions" are used in most of the films we watch to help viewers understand the storyline and to generate more conflict / excitement, it also helps to thicken the plot and add contrast. Claude, for instance, was attempting to convey the idea that in a horror movie it could actually be humans against the supernatural, that there could be good against evil in a superhero film. While this is what Claude said, sometimes the image of the simplistic opposite may not be as obvious to other people , for example, people may have a different perception of a superhero in which they think they are a bad character, while others may see it as a good character, and because everyone has a viewpoint of their own, it affects the way the characters are really meant to be.

composition challenge

from completing  this task i have learnt how the rule of thirds, framing, space, prospective, colour, composition and framing can be used in a film and how to use it i think this will help make more meaning in our film as all the aspects are involved in a thirrler film

summary on the convention on our sub genre

I have learned a decent deal about thrillers and their sub genres from my study. I now realise, for instance, that most thrillers are based on crime. However, they never really depict any murder in these previews, just the build-up to the scenes. As they also illustrate in their openings, this is in contrast to most horrors. Also, before anything else, the opening scenes always attempt to create the protagonist. They then use it to create suspense for the remainder of the opening sequence. We have learned that the adversary is introduced to the protagonists at the end, but can typically be seen throughout as the presence of the antagonists might be clear to the viewer. However, this information is omitted by some directors to build suspense and mystery throughout the thriller. The most significant tradition in a crime is arguably suspense and mystery, which is typical with many cases. A typical position in crime thrillers is that women are typically villains, whereas they are generally men, which contrasts most thrillers, but this female antagonist may mean that women are not vulnerable and are capable of killing people.

 thriller film meeting

survey result for a thriller film

from this task i have learnt what  people want to see in a thriller but also what age genre like to see  in a thriller along with the sub genre  this also tells us what sort of antagonist people like to see for example a women or male antagonist

film budget

legal restriction & regulaion's

from completing this task i have learned that these rules can help a group avoid from offending their audience/consumers. Legal constraints are different to an ethical constraint because it is a limit set by laws. Laws are legally enforced. If a media company were to break these laws they would not only cause offence but be punished for breaking laws. which will help our group as we don't wont to be breaking the law.

pitch and rational

In this rationale I will be explaining the main details that assist in the planning of our film. We desire to produce an erotic thriller that requires documentation and planning, subsequently i will be planning an opening for a thriller film as well as going into detail on the collection of information to maximise the popularity of the film. On top of this i will explain all potential ideas and the final idea that we will turn into a finalised product.

I am pitching in response to the challenge to make a thriller film opening, my group and I think this is an excellent opportunity as it will let us show our creativity and passion for films. The film we will be making is a thriller film with the sub genre of crime. For a four-minute opening, we thought that crime would be the best option as most thriller films have a sense of the crime. We have had multiple team meetings and have done a mind map of what ideas we've had for the film we picked the best idea and I'm now going to tell you what it is.

Our thriller opening will be showing the audience the baseline of our story. Our film is about a woman who has built high hate towards teenage boys, she seduces them and murders them viciously in an abandoned area. The film will also follow two detectives who have both been put on the case of catching the serial killer before too many people are killed. throughout the opening, there will be various jump cut of the women not showing her face till but will indicate that she's young and beautiful there will also be a shot where she will be picking a weapon from her stash which is covered in blood during the open the audience won't find out why she kills but there will be various clue to why she has such a strong hatred.

This thriller film is going to be for ages 15+ as it will have violent scenes throughout and strong language. my group and I have sent out a survey to see what people thought of thriller films and what they like to see the most, the most common response we got that they wanted a woman as the antagonist.which does not occur often in a thriller film due to women usually show as a victim and needing saving from the male antagonist, for example, the thriller film psycho. So my group and I thought that this would be exciting as were going against the view of many people who think women are weak.

I hope my pitch has excited and got you interested and excited in our film much as I am to make it. Thank you for taking the time to listen to me to propose.

pitch to class

make up and costume

A big part of our film opening is the make up. In our film there is a bruising on the victims neck , therefore we used make up to help us achieve the look of real bruising

props list and equipment list

The props list is very helpful when filming as we can take it to out set and make sure we have got everything that is needed on that certain filming session.

equiment list

Each time we film, the equipment list helps us have a understanding of what we need for each filming session.

risk assessment

Generally you could argue that the risk assessment and contingency plan are essentially the most important aspects of pre-production alongside it actually being a legal requirement. It is useful to identify health and safety hazards in which you can then evaluate the risks which may arise. Written on the risk assessment is the control measures and contingency plan for any risk we have assessed.  A contingency plan is a way of evaluating any problems that may occur and giving the best solution to what might resolve this issue if it did happen. This ensures the effectiveness and suitability of existing control measures meaning that in those situations you can respond accordingly and efficiently. The most likely problem to occur will probably be the absence of a group member whether they are ill or just not bale to attend. Our then planned solution would be to fill that role with whom we think is most suitable as a backup to this part.

Research and plan titles (colour, size, font) as well as a company logo

Our title plans and choices give us a rough idea of what font, size etc we want our title and opening credits to be. Carly chose 8 different fonts and we all voted for which one we want to use and why.

research on thriller music

Here is a completed music plan which we intentionally sourced ready for editing so that we had lots of ideas in advance which we could then match to our project and select the best audio from. This was an efficient use of time so that we don't find ourselves trying to find music to match our opening but instead have more time to choose which tracksuits the best alongside the footage. An important reason we must complete this task is so that we can make certain we are aware of the copyright laws and sourcing non-copyrighted music for our audio. This needs to be done carefully as the legal penalties can charge you up to £50,000 and in extreme cases incarceration.

shot list

This is our shot list displayed in an ordered table layout that categorizes the various types of shots, the number of shots, what takes place in that particular scene, and what props will be used. Using this layout style, our company assists in the numerous shootings and in what order each shot should be taken. This also gives us a better idea of what the end result could look like, as we will have a clearer picture of what is going to happen.

storyboard

As my team nominated me to do so, I created the storyboard myself as they felt that I was trustworthy and had a strong level of creative skills that would support this assignment. It presents the plan of each of the desired shots alongside any required dialogue. In terms of helping the group have a good picture of the direction the project is going in, this role is a crucial part of pre-production. This literally gives us the chance to see what our film is going to look like before it is actually made. This is an advantageous place to be in since it suggests that there is space and time to make any improvements that we wish to improve. Storyboards should normally be used as a checklist or guide as it indicates that you can use it to ensure that any shot required is correctly filmed.

character profile

from the charcter profile has help me as it gives a back story to the character in our film and tells the actor how they behave  which make the acting better as it will feel more realistic

filming schedule

frim this task I have learned the scheduling for my group film and who doing  what on what day  this is good as it keeps us organized and prepared for when we are filming
