As a team, we were asked to make a thriller film opening in small groups. We were also asked to task in the creation of the film, for example, a location recce a shooting schedule etc. I worked as part of a group but I understand my individual role which would entail writing up the script of the film while also directing the film while also working as part of a team. I would also help the other team members if they needed it.

During our first team meeting, we discussed the sub-genre of the thriller we were making we settled and decided on a crime thriller we also discussed the location where we would film we decided that it would be best to film outside of school and where there wouldn’t be much of foot traffic so we wouldn’t be disrupted when filming. Our team meeting was productive because we were able to discuss the plot of our film, our team was also productive as we were all looking forward to making a short film but also we were enjoying what we were doing. All my team members were productive as we delegated the duties evenly between everyone so no one was doing more than anyone else but also that whoever was doing a task knew how to do it. This had a huge impact on the project as some of the duties were done to the best of mine and my team member abilities while another task was not done to the best of their ability. We improved this by going over each of our work and giving advice on where they could improve it.

I researched what sub-genre would be best to film for a short thriller film. We found out that a crime thriller was the best option to go with. We found this information out by sending a survey to different people we knew but we also put the survey on Facebook so we could get more opinion. the result was that people wanted to see a crime thriller with a female as an antagonist. I understood that to be successful we would need to complete further research into I did further research by watching crime thriller to see the best way for us to structure our film I also did a lot more reach on having a female antagonist by finding film with them but there weren’t that many films with a female antagonist in a crime thriller, Overall the research completed helped as it told us the sub-genre of our film.

In our film, my team and I had to use a variety of logistics, finance and creative processes that helped me manage and meet the deadline for the film. A production schedule helped manage my film as it helped us manage time and give us structure, so it was an overarching perspective on what could be done/started on one date and completed on another date but also it would tell us which were more important to start first. We also wrote a script to give guidance to the team but also our actor's. This helped as it gave our actor what they should be doing which made it easier to film. This also helped us save time as the actor had already memorize their lines and were ready to film. A creative process I had to design was a storyboard. A storyboard is a visual presentation that consists of sequentially displayed drawings or photographs to pre-visualize a motion picture. This helped as it told my group where we should film first but it also helped us put our film together when we were editing it. It also helps us know what shot we needed to film for example a close-up or an establishing shot. for a creative process, we had to make a  location recce,  a location recce is a various shot where we plan to film this help as it told us if the location were suitable to film in but also it was a necessary part to our pre-production. We also had to make a shot list for a creative process. The shot list entailed the lost list was composed of which shot will take place in my film but in which order they will be filmed and where they will be filmed. A creative process for the editing experiments my group and I did. By doing small edits on some clips for titles so we would know what sort of font we should use alongside the text size and how long they should be shown on the film.

During the pre-production process, we had one main logistical issue that we needed to overcome. firstly we needed to consider covid 19  and the new national lockdown rules and how this would impact our film we did this by looking at how many people were allowed outside at the same time but also if someone had gotten ill if we could film without them we also had to factor in that some actor might not want to film at they might not be able to come and film if they were sick. We also had to consider what would happen if someone in our team was infected if we could film or not we thought that if one of the people in our group was absent we would edit the footage we previously got from another shoot.

Working on a full-scale production for a thriller film would incur huge costs and my research showed me that I could acquire finance in the following ways: travel money, money for props and costume. As we were aiming to work on little to no budget we thought that we only buy what we essentially needed for example: police tape, fake blood and chalk while we saved money by using the equipment we already owned. This was successful as we could plan ahead on what we needed to buy and what we didn’t need to buy. If we had acquired a budget we would have bought fake blood police tape and white chalk as we could save money on things we didn’t really need.

I believe what I have created is the best I could do due to the current situation.  I feel that what I have managed to do the project was done well as we had many things going against as such as the material lockdown rules. making the film through pre-production helped as it gave us something to rely on. I would say the production of the film was difficult as we could finish filming but also were only allowed to people in our group to go filming at a time. Overall I found that the pre-production part of this project was fairly much easier than the production side of it and I’m not really proud of the overall outcome of my film as I never got all my footage which made my edit feel incomplete to me. My film was based on multiple crime thrillers which gave the inspiration to try to make a crime thriller with a female antagonist which goes against social conventions. For my film, I used a trustworthy friend as an actor as I could trust them with the roles and I knew they wouldn’t mess around when we were filming. During filming we had people walk past us which made us stop production. We overcame this by going to the location when no one was around but also we waited until they left so we had no dialogue we didn’t want. The only main big problem I had was the pandemic as it made us lose a day when we could film, in the end, we weren’t able to finish filming so I believed overcoming this would be easy by making an edit with the footage we had would be best.

Effectiveness is vital in making a film as its impacts will usually show a negative remark if management was poor through the director and producer. Management is key as it used well the film can have poor quality production. Such as having half the footage or even having an unfinished film will go down with poor effectiveness of management. Other aspects like sound editing and filming can come down to poor management as it shows that the director wasn’t strict enough this can also impact time on the film you can go behind deadline and not have the film finished on time. Overall management is key to having a good film.
